DIRECTIONS OF INTEGRATION & DISINTIGRATION

COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS
Stress & Security Points

When an individual is feeling stressed, whether it is a minor irritation or something of more intensity, they often experience an exaggerated version of their own Enneagram style. However, at times the stress may cause them to temporarily move along the Enneagram and exhibit characteristics of another Enneagram style. Each type has a natural connection to another in times of stress. This is demonstrated by the arrows seen within the Enneagram symbol.

The Enneagram style that your type points to is your Disintegration (or Stress) Point. For example, TYPE NINE points to TYPE SIX. In times of stress, TYPE NINE may be faced with some of the inherent challenges of TYPE SIX.

Likewise, in times of great comfort and relaxation (or security) people may either exhibit an exaggerated form of the high side of their Enneagram style or they may move along the Enneagram to another specific Enneagram style.

The arrow pointing toward your Enneagram Type originated at your Integration Style. For example, the arrow pointing at TYPE NINE originates at TYPE THREE. When individuals with the Enneagram style of TYPE NINE are feeling relaxed and confident they will at times possess some of the strengths of TYPE THREE.

Of special note is the fact that different people interpret stress in different ways. Some individuals find stress to be exhilarating, in which case they may experience the high side of their Stress Point rather than the low.
